A model or modèle is a person who is employed for the purpose of displaying and promoting fashion clothing or other products and for advertising or promotional purposes or who poses for works of art.

Modeling is distinguished from other types of public performance, such as an acting, dancing or mime artist, although the boundary is not well defined. Appearing in a movie or a play is not considered modeling. However, modells may be considered to express emotion in their photographs or video.

Types of modeling include fashion, glamor, fitness, bikini, fine art, and body-part models. Models are features in a variety of media formats including books, magazines, movies, newspapers, and TV. The models themselves can be a featured part of a movie (Looker, Tattoo), reality television show (America's Next Top Model, The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency), or music video ("Freedom! '90", "Wicked Game", "Daughters").

There are Fashion Models, Runway, Print, Supermodels, glamour, body parts, body double (acting), fitness modeling, bikini models and more.

A modeling agency is a company that comprises of modeling agents. A modeling agent (also called "bookers" or "model managers") is a group of people who manages a model's career. An agent help a model find jobs, book jobs, gives advice, and gives photographs to various companies. An agent may sent models to various clients and schedules modeling interviews (also called go and see).

A model does not have to work with an agent. It is up to the individual

When it comes to modeling, your portfolio serves as your resume and showcases your body of work. Whether you are signed to an agency or are a freelance model, putting together your portfolio is one of the most important aspects of your career.

      Getting Pictures
   1.
      Before even attempting to put together a modeling portfolio, it is important to know what type of modeling you can do. Freelance models have greater flexibility in this area but should focus on a main category they will receive the most work in. If you do glamour or swim wear, then those are the types of photos you should have in your portfolio. High fashion models should have high fashion images in their books (another term for portfolio). Be realistic. If you are too short for fashion, stick to commercial/print and lifestyle images.
   2.
     High fashion images
      Use magazines and other publications as reference guides for the types of images you'll want to include in your portfolio. This will help you get an idea of the type of shoot you'll need to set up.
   3.
      For models signed to agencies, your agent will have a sit-down with you and advise you as to what types of images should be in your portfolio. They will also recommend photographers for you to work with that the agency trusts. It is in your best interest to go with the photographer referred to you by the agent. If you go outside the channels, your agent may not like the photos, resulting in a waste of time, effort and a portfolio your agent can't use.

      Freelance models can turn to online modeling communities as well as other outlets to find local photographers to work with. Be sure to look at the photographer's work and choose one who specializes in the type of images you want to include. If you are satisfied with their work, shoot them an email or give them a call to set up a meeting or shoot.

      Pick a photograph specializing in the type of modeling you do.

      Once you have found a photographer you want to work with, meet with him/her before your shoot to discuss the themes, concepts and/or looks you are going for. Explain what types of photos you'd like to try. From here you two can agree on locations, outfits, date, time, etc.

      Make sure you have everything you need packed before your shoot so you don't forget anything. You should have your hair and makeup professionally done as well to guarantee the best images. Agency represented models often have the comfort of having a makeup, hair and wardrobe stylist present during the portfolio shoot, while freelance models may have to do it themselves or get it done somewhere prior to the shoot.
   7.
      Once you have taken your photos, it's time to review them and pick the best. Out of the bunch you'll want to make sure to have the following among your images: headshot, ¾ body shot, full body shot. You'll want different outfits and locations to show diversity as well. Play with poses and give a variety...if you have the same poses over and over your portfolio will be boring.

      Tearsheet Example
      As your modeling career progresses, update your images in your portfolio to reflect your most current work. In addition to regular modeling photos, include any tearsheets you get. These are pages taken directly from the published work you have appeared in. Tearsheets are vital to a model's portfolio because it showcases actual work, which is very impressive to clients.

Naked Girl on Chatroulette 2. Naked girl. Under no circumstances should you hit Report. However, if you're feeling particularly generous, you should probably "Next" her so we get to see some boobies. The last 336 people we've talked to have all been disembodied penises.
Mystery Maiden on Chatroulette 3. Mystery maiden. This is probably the only totally hot, non-celebrity female you're going to come across on here. Sorry, but with 180,000,000 users and counting, the law of averages means now only three women in the world use this site.
Paris Hilton on Chatroulette 4. Paris Hilton. Case in point -- if Paris Hilton is using Chatroulette, almost no self-respecting female will be caught in a screenshot anymore. On a side note, is this the only known photo of Paris Hilton in a hotel room on a webcam in which she is not doing it with some Z-list celebrity.
Glasses Girl on Chatroulette 5. Glasses girl. She's probably not even old enough to drink yet, but what guy hasn't fallen for a babe who wears the same spectacles? Check out the chat at the bottom of their screen: "Is this a sign?" the guy asks. "Probably," she replies. And that's how the greatest-ever Internet romance was born.
Genevieve on Chatroulette 6. Genevieve. In February, Awl contributor and Vimeo staple Casey Neistat created this expert's guide to Chatroulette. Neistat's video isn't all that notable; mostly he reveals the Earth-shattering news that 95 percent of guys Nexted him instantly. But then he brings in smokin' hot friend Genevieve and, wouldn't you know, 95 percent of the guys wanted to talk to her. (The rest couldn't see her because their giant boners blocked the top part of the screen.)

Star Wars Nerds on Chatroulette 7. "Star Wars" nerds. One way to get hot chicks to stop Nexting you is to wear a ridiculous outfit that catches their interest. A stormtrooper dorkfit works, although you might have to wait forever before you come across a pair like this, which consists of two fairly attractive space dweebs who think the guy playing "Star Wars" sound effects and refusing to talk to them is the "best person we['ve chatted with]."

The hit reality series AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL goes high-fashion for cycle 15. The show features Tyra Banks and gives real young women of various backgrounds, shapes and sizes an opportunity to prove that they can make it in the high-stress, high-stakes world of high fashion supermodeling.
Lending their expertise as guest judges during this high fashion cycle are designer Diane Von Furstenberg, designer/stylist Patricia Field ("Sex and the City"), top beauty photographer Matthew Rolston, supermodel Karolina Kurkova, top fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier, Italian photographer Francesco Carrozzini, designer Zac Posen, designer/model Margherita Missoni, IMG Models executive Kyle Hagler, Vogue Italia editor-in-chief Franca Sozzani and designer Roberto Cavalli.
Banks leads the panel of judges, comprised of influential fashion editor André Leon Talley and photographer Nigel Barker. Jay Manuel serves as the photo shoot creative director, while Miss J Alexander returns as the runway trainer.
The prize package has also been given a high-fashion makeover. The winner of Cycle 15 will receive a career-launching package, including a contract with IMG Models, one of the top international modeling management companies in the world; a fashion spread in Vogue Italia and an additional spread and cover of Beauty in Vogue; and a $100,000 contract with CoverGirl Cosmetics.
AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL is produced by 10 by 10 Entertainment, in association with Bankable Productions. Tyra Banks is the creator and executive producer along with Ken Mok ("Making the Band") and Laura Fuest ("Pit Boss").

Such has been the frustration of hearing talent who use social modeling sites like mayhem and brigade and other websites who seem to only attract adult and porn industry agents and others.  If you are trying to build a mainstream modeling name for yourself there no no real alternatives for talent.  It is a shame that most users of these websites don't help the talent even make money.   Instead, ladies on invited to group shoots with non professional GWC's trying to get laid.  What is the point of taking off your clothes for a few dollars?  Your better off in a playboy cybergirls casting call.  At least your not going to be screwed over AS BAD.

An ethnic model from Southern California who can mix glamour and sexy is not always easy to find.  Take our MV Girl Sam.

Her curves and sex appeal keep her busy doing promotional modeling in the music industry and rap videos.  She's been on several music projects with very notable acts in the urban movement. 

She tells MV she looks up to ladies like Oprah Winfrey (HARPO) who are goal oriented and hard working and giving.

Who are the most desirable women of 2010? Some people get the famous well known girls on screen and in TV. The comparisons are not really important becouse MV feels, we should rate the girl next door. The sexy model you will see at the local club or pub.  Take Kristy for example.  A smart college girl and bikini model who stands almost 6 feet tall.  This is runway caliber girl with smart looks and sexy lips. 


Even though AM's annual list of the Top 99 Most Desirable Women ranks the famous females who rock the world, something we don't agree with that kind of list; because we will never meet them. So who cares? Illusions from a useless list. So these chix are from stand-up comediennes and powerful businesswomen; some are Oscar-bound actresses and swimsuit models. Did Eva Mendes hold on to the No. 1 spot in 2010, or is someone new heading up the start of a whole new decade? Do we care, NO! Because they dont have model vanity status.

Kristy is at the top of our reader list becouse she combines classic runway style with sexy glamour vibe.  


So the tactic becomes, if you talk about the highly visible people in the media, that should cast some light on your magazine. Again, it doesn't serve the girls on the list, or the guys voting for them. Would it not be better to feature woman that you could meet? Isnt' the point fellas? So After a six-week long voting period, 6 million votes were cast to a waste, the ballots closed and the tallying was complete. What does the modern man look for in his ideal companion? AskMen list of the Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2010 inform you. We have decided to work on 2011. Once in a while a really great person come for a shoot at MV Studios.  Lori hails from the AZ, and she's hotter then a tempe21 or whatever you call that college thing.  And she does calender shoots.  She loves lowriders (cars that hop) and jeans that rock the hips.  Here are some takes from our shoot.


The outdoor shots are taken from our water gardens right outside MV Studios Building.  We have terraces, and beautiful walkways.  Paths and water fountains abound.  The white bench is actually located in a balcony on the second floor of our historical building (in a historical district)


Lori enjoys modeling and can be booked through Model Vanity.  She does promotional events in AZ and Las Vegas and will travel if compensation is included for travel expenses.


The photo to the right above is from a structure that is found no where else on earth.  Many folks come from many places to see this wonderful place.  It is amazing how many people from around the country will come to check out our studio grounds adjacent to a very famous regional Mexican food restaurant.
