The campaign is designed to promote better physical fitness among America's children and dent the current epidemic of childhood obesity in the U.S. Previously, New York Senator Charles Schumer and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa have both submitted resolutions recognizing The Shape Up America Campaign founder Michael Torchia for his advocacy of health and fitness issues for families and obese kids.

The Shape Up America Campaign was created to help children and adults around the country get healthy for their own benefit and for the lasting benefits that will strengthen the entire nation for generations to come.
The campaign targets all segments of our communities, including schools, city government, civic organizations, community groups, businesses, and other people who live, work and play in America.
The Operation Fitness Team will travel around the country providing the crucial information that will help even the most stubborn and unmotivated Americans learn how to break their bad eating habits and become more physically active. The ultimate goal is to teach people how they can create simple ways of exercising and develop sensible eating habits, along with participating in stimulating activities at home, office, in a park or even in the wilderness. In addition, pet owners will learn innovative ways to get their pets in shape and on a healthy track.
It is vital that we make a change now before it is too late. Americans are neglecting their health, when simple changes can make a difference in the overall quality of their lives. With encouragement and options for making that change, Americans will become more active and health-conscious.
